MOONLIT DOULA AND INFANT SPECIALTIES WELCOMES YOU

COMPASSIONATE AND COMPETENT CARE FOR FAMILIES OF NEWBORNS IN CHICAGO

Veronica Burns (she/they) is a postpartum doula and infant mental health specialist based in Logan Square, Chicago. She has 15 years of experience providing support and care to families with young children in various settings, including working overnight in the homes of clients and hosting group workshops for expecting or new parents. Veronica is passionate about using evidence-based practice to provide affirming and inclusive psychosocial care for the whole family.

After she first meets her clients, she evaluates gaps in what the household might need and focuses on meeting parents wherever they are in their pregnancy or postpartum journey. Veronica’s main goal is to instill a sense of calm in the families she serves so they feel well-rested and well-prepared. She holds a BS in Human Development and Family Studies with a focus in Child and Adolescent Development from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MS in Child Development with a specialization in Child Life from top-ranking Erikson Institute in Chicago. After receiving her MS, she worked as child life specialist and decided to return to Erikson for a postgraduate certificate in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health. For her capstone project, she achieved her lifelong dream of writing a children's book about coping in times of the pandemic. She hopes to continue writing stories that break down complex topics for young children.

In addition to these credentials and many years of career experience, Veronica has multiple certifications and she continues to stay up to date on the latest developments and trends within the field. She is proficient in parental support and in-home care, and she has unique clinical experience working with NICU graduates, children born with medical complexities, teen parents, and survivors of assault.

Veronica prioritizes providing comprehensive, empathetic support to a diverse range of clientele across the city and suburbs, including parents who are navigating healthcare and parenthood as queer or as people of color as Veronica herself is queer and biracial. She is a loving and involved auntie of five spunky nieces, all of whom she cared for in infancy and early childhood. In her free time, she enjoys reading indie books, writing short stories, and spending time with her husband and two cats, Koga and Celly.
